School Reopening Update 8/14/2020

Hillsborough School Board Votes to Move to 100% Virtual Learning for First Week Followed By Choice Model

From Addison Davis,

Our district has been working diligently to reach a resolution with the Florida Department of Education to successfully reopen schools with your safety and health in mind. First and foremost, I appreciate your patience and flexibility through this process as you work tirelessly to provide students with meaningful and engaging learning experiences this fall.

I submitted two different phased-in models that would have delayed our brick and mortar opening while ensuring our most vulnerable student populations were served in a face-to-face capacity. Unfortunately, FLDOE rejected both plans and were only amenable to a full-scale reopening of schools per the emergency order.

We are preparing daily for learners and staff to return with enhanced safety protocols. We have personal protective equipment for teachers and students and will continue to purchase these items as the year progresses.

The first week of school will be all eLearning and called “Smart Start Week.” This will provide a jumpstart for our learners and allow them to build a foundation for success while becoming accustomed to new health and safety procedures.

Teachers will record daily attendance and prepare students for new safety protocols when returning to the classroom.
