Message from the Principal - September 2020

Good afternoon Benito families!

We hope you and your family are happy and healthy! There are roughly 450 Brick and Mortar students on campus and 550 participating in eLearning. We hope your family is happy with the environment your child is in.

Our first conference night is scheduled to be held remotely on Thursday, October 1st. Students that are doing well are not expected to have any type of conference. Please contact your child’s teacher(s), if you would like to set-up a virtual conference.

Beginning September 21st, all breakfast and lunches served at Benito will be free of charge for all students. Families that participate remotely can pick up lunches to go from 10am-11am on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Benito PTSA needs your support! Whether you are doing e-learning or have returned to campus in person, please join Benito PTSA to support our school, our students, and our teachers. You can purchase a parent membership for just $6 and a student membership for $5. Join online at https://benito.new.memberhub.store/store. While you’re at the online store, you can also participate in our birthday marquee fundraiser. For just $10, your child’s first name will be displayed on the Benito marquee on their birthday. When you support PTSA, it makes our school community stronger.

We are now accepting student portfolios for NJHS. Please see the attached documents that contain the application packet, directions, and bylaws. The portfolio submission deadline is Friday, October 9th by 4:30 pm. Please drop off your completed portfolio binder and your application fee to Ms. Olson in room 626 on or before the deadline. If you are an eLearner, you may drop it off at the front desk and we will deliver it to Ms. Olson for you. If you have any questions you can email either Ms. Olson at dulcinea.olson@sdhc.k12.fl.us or Ms. Millan at elizabeth.millan@sdhc.k12.fl.us .

Athletic practices and competitions will begin in October. If your student is interested in trying out for one of our sports, they must complete an athletic packet. You can find the information and packet on the Benito website. You will also be able to view the athletic calendar and read about changes to our spectator experience.

Please join me in congratulating our 2020-2021 award winners. Our Teacher of the Year is Daniel Gostkowski, our Ida S. Baker winner is Sherri Jackson, our Instruction Support Person of the Year is Veronica Gonzalez and the Hillsborough School Counselor Association Administrator of the Year is Fatima Stark. These winners contribute to the success of our school and we are very proud to have them as part of our Benito family.

Thank you and have a great day!
John Sanders, Principal Benito Middle School
