Hillsborough Schools en Español
I am thrilled to announce a new communication tool created for our Hispanic students, staff and families. Our district launched dedicated social media channels to communicate exclusively in Spanish. The new pages on Facebook and Twitter are called “Hillsborough Schools en Español,” and will focus on the growing Hispanic community in our district.
Our Hispanic students make up 37% of our student population. By leveraging Facebook and Twitter en Espanol, we can cultivate greater connections with our students, parents, and the entire community. These social media channels will share important information for our more than 80,000 students who identify as Hispanic.
Right now our schools are celebrating the diversity of our student population during Hispanic Heritage Month, so this is a perfect time to strengthen our community outreach efforts for the Spanish-speaking families within Hillsborough County Public Schools.
The pages are now live. We encourage you to follow Hillsborough Schools en Espanol. Share this new resource with any colleagues, families or community members you believe can benefit from the important information posted daily.

Pasos al Futuro
I am so proud that our district continues to strive to educate our Spanish-speaking families in the college going process even in a pandemic.
The need for information on the college going process continues to be paramount. Every student, parent, aunt, grandfather who is empowered with the information and knowledge to reach their college dreams is one more rock star we have all gained in workforce and in the world. Please help share this opportunity as we work together to lift our youth to their highest potential.
Summer Feeding Program
USDA has allowed school districts to participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) until the end of 2020 or until the available funding runs out. We have decided to participate in SFSP starting on September 21, 2020 (next Monday)because we want to extend free meals to all students across the district, not just the students in our brick & mortar sites. What this means for HCPS is:
· Starting September 21, all students will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost in our brick and mortar schoolsregardless of their eligibility status on file.
· We will offer curbside grab and gomeals at 75 schools only (please see attached list of grab and go sites) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 AM – 11 AM.
· Meals provided at the curbside grab and go schools are available to all children age 18 and under (in other words, we are not limited to enrolled students only.)
· All meals provided in brick and mortar schools AND at curbside feeding will contain all components (no Offer vs Serve.)
· SNS will continue to accommodate for allergies and special diets.
If you are at one of the 75 grab and go distribution sites, be assured that we are aware of the disruption that grab and go meal service may cause. We are going to do grab and go meal distribution from the front of the school so that gates do not have to be opened. This may impact any school deliveries you mayreceive on Monday's or Wednesday's from 10 AM – 11 AM. We will utilize SNS and transportation staff (if necessary) to handle the grab and go distribution so you do not have to worry about providing any school staff for meal service.
The Communications department is working on getting the message out to our parents and community members. We need your help in communicating to parents to fill out the free and reduced meal application. Since all meals will be free, parents may feel there is no need to fill the application out. However, other funding to schools is determined by free and reduced meal applications, and when the funding for SFSP runs out any students who are not approved will go to full pay status. So please help us spread themessage throughout the period when we are serving free meals.
Thanks for all you do. We hope this change will be positive and allow us to better serve our students so they are fueled and ready to learn!
