James Madison Junior High School opened in 1952. In 1992-93 the school became James Madison Middle School. Several former students have gone on to become professional athletes, including the wrestler Dusty Rhodes and former professional football player, John Reaves. The Ray Escobar Relays, an annual countywide track meet, is named for a former coach/teacher at Madison. The school board named the school after the fourth president of the United States, chose maroon and white as the school colors, and the Mustang as the mascot.
