    • Welcome

The Hospital/Homebound Program is designed to help students who have been diagnosed with a physical or psychiatric condition that is acute or catastrophic in nature and confines a student to home or hospital. It is for students who are not able to take advantage of the other programs offered by the HCPS district office. Before being referred to Hospital Homebound, the school and parent should have ruled out keeping the student in school using a 504 plan, using Hillsborough Virtual School, or using the Teen Parent programs.

    • Hospitals

hospital image We have classrooms located at Tampa General. Hillsborough County Public School teachers meet with students who are in the hospital for long term stays as well as those who come for weekly recurring visits.

We also teach students at Pediatric Health Choice, Quest, and Lakeshore Villas residential centers.

    • Homebound

homebased learning image When found eligible, students in grade Pre-K through grade 5, who are under a doctor's care and have been diagnosed with a physical or psychiatric condition that is acute or castastrophic in nature which confines the student to home, are assigned a teacher that comes to the home to teach the student.

Many of our students in Pre-K thru grade 5 are served in the home due to their medical situation. These students are expected to perform to the best of their ability. Our student in grades 6-12 are served via a phone conference bridge called teleclass. Please see the Teleclass tab for more explanation.

    • Teleclass

telephone image When found eligible, students in grade 6 through 12, who are under doctor's care and have been diagnosed with a physical or psychiatric condition that is acute or castastrophic in nature and which confines the student to home or hospital are assigned to teleclasses. These lessons are given in group sessions over the telephone by a certified teacher.

Students in grades 6-12 receive an exciting, engaging, and rigorous curriculum through teleclass. With the understanding that many of the students are served because of special medical conditions, students are still expected to work to the best of their abilities. Being in the Hospital Homebound Program does not excuse students from being held accountable for performing at their best.

    • Homebased

boy in wheelchair image ESE students who attend a Hillsborough County Public School and receive a change of placement from that school must still receive an education by state law. These students are not permitted on a school campus during the day. They are taught in night school or teleclasses.
