Mr. Steve Cona

Biography:

Steve P. Cona III serves as Vice Chair of the Hillsborough County School Board. He was elected to the Hillsborough County School Board, representing District 1, in 2018. He is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $3.3 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county’s largest employer with more than 24,000 employees.

Mr. Cona serves as the president & CEO of Associated Builders and Contractors Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. He was Florida Governor Rick Scott’s appointee to the Hillsborough Community College District Board of Trustees and serves on the advisory board for Visit Tampa Bay. He has a passion for ensuring that our students are career and college ready.

Mr. Cona received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida. He is a Hillsborough County native and product of Hillsborough County Public Schools. He and his wife Audra have two children, Steve and Giana, who both attend Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Ms. Stacy Hahn

Biography:

Dr. Stacy Hahn was elected to the Hillsborough County School Board, representing District 2, in 2018. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $3.3 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county’s largest employer with more than 24,000 employees.

Dr. Hahn is a graduate of the University of Florida where she earned a PhD in Early Childhood & Special Education. She is a professional educator and her career spans more than two decades with positions at every level of the K-20 spectrum, including: public school teacher, advocate, grant facilitator, professional development director, educational researcher, and university professor.

Throughout her career she has collaborated with parents, students, teachers, school counselors, principals, and community leaders to bring about long-term success. Dr. Hahn knows that quality public education is essential to students and communities reaching their potential.

Dr. Hahn has served on numerous community organizations including: Hillsborough County Children’s Services Advisory Board, the Junior League of Tampa, After School All Stars, and Mary Lee’s House. She and her family are members of Christ the King Catholic Church. Dr. Hahn lives in Tampa with her husband Jeff and their three children Ethan, Jackson, and Aidan.

Mrs. Cindy Stuart

Biography:

Cindy Stuart is currently the elected School Board Member for District 3 serving students and constituents in the Northwest section of Hillsborough County. Mrs. Stuart is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $2.9 billion for the 7th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county's largest employer with more than 26,000 employees.

Cindy currently serves in many roles both within the district and on community organizations. She serves on the Legislative Committee for the board, interacting directly with our contracted firms to push agendas and initiatives at the state and federal level. She also chairs the Transportation Committee directly impacting the decisions that come forward from within the organization but are also in collaboration with outside partners. Within the community, Cindy represents the district on the Metropolitan Planning Organization as a steering committee member and a policy committee member. She also chairs the School Transportation Working Group under this organization to facilitate better communication and balanced decision making for all participating municipalities.

She represents the School Board on the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts Board of Trustees, Hillsborough Education Foundation (alternate), Juvenile Justice Board, Circuit 13, Glazer’s Children Museum’s Board of Directors, and Safe & Sound Hillsborough Leadership Council member, finance chair and executive team member.

At the state level, Cindy sits as a board member for the Florida School Boards Association representing Hillsborough County and is on the state legislative committee. Cindy was recently named to the Executive Team of FSBA as the treasurer.

Raised in Tampa, Mrs. Stuart is a proud graduate of A.P. Leto Comprehensive High School in Hillsborough County. She worked full-time to put herself through college and became the first member of her family to graduate from a university. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1995 from Florida International University with a concentration in Management Information Systems and Programming.

Mrs. Stuart is a Tampa resident, and mother of three children.

A few highlights of Cindy’s accomplishments in her 7 years as a Board Member include, 6 Community Partnership Schools, 60 Feeding America food pantries within schools of high need, Board development of Racial Equity and Diversity policy (2019 Urban School Board of Excellence Award), a Pre-K swimming program for all students enrolled within district pre-k school and transportation and logistics programs across several municipalities including the school district.

Ms. Melissa Snively, Chair

Biography:

Melissa Snively serves as Chair of the Hillsborough County School Board. She was elected to the board, representing District 4, in 2014. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $3.3 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county’s largest employer with more than 24,000 employees.

Mrs. Snively earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida with a major in English and a minor in Secondary Education. She is a member of Florida Blue Key Leadership Honorary and Past President of the Tampa UF Alumni Association. Mrs. Snively has worked in the insurance industry for over 25 years and has owned a successful agency in eastern Hillsborough County since 2001.

Mrs. Snively enjoys being very involved in her community and has served many local organizations in leadership positions, including the PTA/PTSA, American Cancer Society, the Junior League, the Brandon Community Roundtable, the Brandon Outreach Medical Clinic, and the Tampa Theatre. She currently serves on the boards for Brandon Regional Hospital and the Glazer Children’s Museum and the Boy Scouts of America Tampa Bay Area Board of Directors. Mrs. Snively was recently recognized for her dedicated service to scouting with the distinguished Boy Scouts Silver Beaver award and the Girls Scouts Woman of Distinction award.

Professionally, Mrs. Snively has served as the Chairman of the Board for the Brandon Chamber of Commerce and is a graduate of Leadership Brandon. She was the recipient of the 2006 Small Business of the Year Award and was awarded the 2015 Senator Tom Lee Community Leadership Award. Mrs. Snively is also Past President of the Tampa Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and currently serves on the local, state and national Political Action Committees.

As a school board member, Mrs. Snively continues to advocate for student safety, effective disciplinary policy, equity for every student, literacy and early childhood education, technical and trade opportunities and strong financial oversight of the budget. She serves on three board subcommittees: Finance, Transportation and chairs the Legislative committee.

Mrs. Snively has been married to David since 1999 and they have four (4) children, all who attend Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Biography:

Tamara Shamburger was elected to the board, representing District 5, in 2016. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $3.3 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county’s largest employer with more than 24,000 employees.

Tamara is a proud Tampa native.  She is the product of Hillsborough County Public Schools and is a proud graduate of Bloomingdale Senior High School. Tamara has a Liberal Arts degree from Hillsborough Community College; Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Florida; and a well-earned Master of Business Administration (MBA) from St. Leo University.

Tamara's career has spanned the last twenty years working in the Insurance Industry.  Tamara brings to the board professionalism, business acumen, as well as her extensive experience in Management, Insurance Litigation, Contracts, Budgets, Leadership, and good old common sense.  Tamara strives to bring the valued perspective of an outsider, unbiasedly focused on all aspects of the District, in her role as a School Board member. 

Tamara is the proud mother of one daughter.

Mrs. Karen Perez

Biography:

Karen Perez was elected to the Hillsborough County School Board, representing countywide District 6, in 2018. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $3.3 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county’s largest employer with more than 24,000 employees.

Ms. Perez holds a Masters in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida and New York. She currently works with patients and families at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and also operates a private practice, Embracing Changes Center for Wellness.

Ms. Perez sits on the Board for the Federation of Families; the Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) Board of Directors; and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and Straight Allies (LGBTQSA) Committee.

She is a Certified Traumatologist, Certified Compassion Fatigue Specialist, Certified Domestic Violence Counselor III, Registered Clinical Social Worker, Certified Sentence Mitigation Specialist, Clinically Certified Forensic Counselor and Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist.

Ms. Perez has three adult children and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Lynn Gray

Biography:

Lynn Gray was elected to the Hillsborough County School Board, representing countywide District 7, in 2016. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $3.3 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county’s largest employer with more than 24,000 employees.

Gray was a teacher and instructional leader for 26 years in Hillsborough County. Her educational highlights include being named Teacher of the Year and Peer Counselor of the Year. She spent 16 years as an instructor and department head in Hillsborough County Public Schools, nine years of instruction and department head at Jesuit High School and three years as a part time adjunct instructor for JMJ of Tampa Bay Homeschooling. Lynn Gray taught AP U.S. History, Advanced U.S. History, Psychology and Global Studies for 9th-12th grade.

Lynn also owns her own business called Take...The First Step, and is President of a non-profit children fitness advocacy club called: Take...The First Step Club. Lynn enjoys gardening and sewing and is a long distance runner.

Lynn Gray has been a strong advocate for building student relationships, early and continuing literacy education, plus an increased emphasis on physical wellness.
