Parents of English Language Learners
Common Core State Standards
"The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers." For a more comprehensive understanding of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), please visit the CCSS Initiative "Resources" tab for in-depth information developed by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices.
To provide clarification of the Common Core State Standards, the Council of the Great City Schools has created "Parent Roadmaps" in both English and Spanish for each grade level in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
