The APD works in partnership with local communities and private providers to assist people who have developmental disabilities and their families. APD also provides assistance in identifying the needs of people with developmental disabilities for supports and services.
Center for Autism & Related Disabilities at USF
The Center for Autism & Related Disabilities at USF is a community-based project that provides information and consultation to individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities. CARD-USF offers instruction and coaching to families and professionals through a training and assistance model.

Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System (FDLRS – Parent Liason Project)
The Department of Exceptional Student Education and Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System offer a project to benefit parents of students with disabilities or special needs in Hillsborough County. The Area Parent Liaisons (one for each of the seven geographic areas of the district) are all parents of students who are, or have been, enrolled in exceptional education programs in Hillsborough County. Their role is to guide and empower parents to become collaborative, effective supporters for their children with disabilities by providing technical support and information.

Self Reliance is a cross disability agency providing services to both children and adults with disabilities (regardless of age and type of disability) to identify and overcome barriers to independence in their lives. Self Reliance is one of 16 Centers for Independent Living (CILs) statewide and is a member of the Florida Association of Centers for Independent Living (FACIL).
