If a student meets eligibility under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act, the student has the right to immediate school enrollment and attendance, even without required enrollment documentation or school records, at either the school of origin (the school last attended before they lost their housing) OR the neighborhood school (the school they are zoned for based upon their current living situation) (HCPS Policy 5111.01). Thirty (30) day grace period will be given in which School Social Worker and School personnel assist parents with obtaining necessary enrollment documents (HCPS Policy 5112). A homeless/in-transition student enrolled at school should be referred for follow up services through the student support staff at the school.
