  • Dear Parent/Guardians!

Next week Belmont will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week! The Red Ribbon campaign is the largest drug prevention program in the Nation and started 23 years ago to commemorate the efforts of US Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camerena. Agent Camerena gave his life to fight the spread of illegal drugs and all over the nation people recognize his courageous acts in trying to make a difference. At this time, we remind ourselves of the dangers of illegal drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and the importance of making healthy decisions that will be good for us, our families and our friends!

This year’s theme is “Be Happy, Be Brave, Be Drug Free.” All students and staff are encouraged to participate in our spirit week! Belmont Elementary is excited to announce the creation of the Belmont Elementary Military Kids Club.  Our own teacher, Mrs. Wheeler, will be the sponsor of the club.  Here is a message she shared on Sept. 9th, 2020:

I am beyond thrilled to announce our Inaugural Belmont Elementary Military Kids Club! As a military wife of 14 years with 3 military kids of our own, I know first hand the triumphs and tribulations military life can present for these special kiddos. Often times military children struggle to fit in, move after move, adjusting to a new set of friends, a new school, new learning and all the anxiety that comes along with the constant relocations needed to protect our country. So my goal with this program is to give our military kids a place, with kids who know their struggles and their unique lifestyles, to make friends and have a grownup at school that truly understands what they are going through.
That said, I am incredibly honored to also be there for our military families as the Belmont Elementary Military Family Liason. Moving states and countries can be taxing to say the least, so I want you to know that you have a place; a point of contact, for all things military related at Belmont. I can't guarantee you that I will know all the answers but I can promise that I will find them for you one way or another! Although in the current circumstances, it is impossible to meet as a club, I will be sending home some information in the upcoming weeks. There will be a club sign up form that military families can fill out and return so that I can be sure to support you in any way I can, whether it be through deployments, temporary duty absences or better yet...
    a SURPRISE homecoming! 🥰🎉🇺🇸
Until then, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICE and please reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have via email at kimberly.wheeler@sdhc.k12.fl.us.
